Project Overview:

Dalton Deschain had always been a fan of pulp stories and comic books, and for their 2019 music video for the single “Man/Thing” they wanted to blend that concept with their band’s ever-expanding story about demons and circus performers. The idea for the video was to create a motion-comic, creating a series of overlaying panels and having them appear in sequence with the music over the video’s 3:45 runtime. Dalton wrote a 42 page comic script to be made in to 24 sequences, each sequence being based around a single scene and layered with anywhere from 3 to 10 comic panels.

I was in charge of taking the detailed script and boarding out each sequence, then eventually illustrating the final versions and text overlays. Kate Wardell would then take those layered elements, add any additionally needed FX, and animate them to the music.
