2015 | Board Game | Prototype

Project Overview:

In 2015 Jaclyn Mahoney and her brother were developing the concept for a new fantasy-themed board game that they were hoping to present at PAX East and other gaming conventions in the next few years, but they needed a physical prototype to display. The gameplay would involve adventurers traveling on different routes to battle against 6 monster bosses in their lairs, collecting resources along the way to help conquer your foes.

For the designs of the shops and the monsters we decided to lean into more thin-lined and intricate designs, looking for inspiration in the fantasy graphics of Lord of the Rings and Dungeons & Dragons. The idea was that the center of the board, the home base, would feel more like a wooden tavern while the outlying area would feel like a cold stone path. Each enemy was to be color coordinated with their collectibles and dungeons to keep things clear to understand as the game progressed.
