LTRT

2017 | Comedy & Discussion | Podcast & Video Network

Project Overview:

In 2017 a group of friends decided to start a podcast based around video games and the various ways they effected their lives, a show which would continue for over 8 years and 205 episodes. Each episode was structured around a topic found in the gaming space and what began as a round-table discussion about the industry quickly also became a comedy show about the impact games can have on our personal lives and culture at large. Similarly, after the podcast had become more consistent the group went on to create more content, LTRT After Hours (an odds-and-ends podcast show), “Fullmetal Bazinga” (a sci-fi watch along podcast show), and a variety of video series for YouTube. Additionally the group have done a charity live stream every year, raising money for a variety of US-based causes.

As the Creative Director and Audio Producer for everything our group made, I was tasked with coming up with consistent imagery that could be used across audio streaming services, video streaming services, live events, merchandise, and more. There was an obvious gaming aesthetic we wanted to lean in to, but as we didn’t always discuss the latest trends the group wanted something that felt more nostalgic to the earlier years of video games. In the beginning this had me leaning more into a pixel art direction, but as time went on it eventually grew in to something fully original to the brand.

Podcast Episode Cards

After the first year of the show it was decided that every episode should get its own special image to help promote the show on social media. From 2018 to 2024 I created a total of 183 images in a range of digital styles including pixel art, watercolor splatter, sticker, stained glass, neon, comic, and gouache.

Merchandise

As more of a fanbase arrived the demand for ways to support the show increased. As such I began creating a variety of merchandise using the logos and designs I had made over the years. Later on I started a tradition of creating exclusive designs to be sold during the charity live streams to help raise money for the causes.

Live Streams

For the yearly charity live stream I was tasked with creating an overlay template for Twitch with a large variety of assets that we could use over the stream’s 24-hour run time including timelines, UI elements, camera setups, and more. As more live streaming shows began to take place I would create new templates based around the games being played. Additionally, for every charity live stream, I would make a poster design to be used for promoting the stream. These poster designs were initially based on the history of handheld gaming, but eventually were concepted around the games being played in the stream itself.

YouTube

After the first season of the podcast the group decided to start making video content on YouTube, creating a variety of live series and scripted shows. For a number of the shows that we knew would have numerous episodes I created logos that could be used both in the videos and on thumbnails to promote them. Additionally, I was tasked with making thumbnails for all of the 336 videos made for the channel.
